Doughgod Lake

Not far beyond camp, the official trail crosses the outlet creek from the lower Doelle Lake and descends a few hundred feet to this quaint valley, once a "lake" but now filled in with peat and gravel. However, there are times that you can put your ear close to the ground, give the ground a firm whack, and hear watery echoes down there. A little creepy.

Make sure you do not continue all the way around to the other end of the meadow and sidetrack on the abandoned Doughgod Trail — its condition is horrific. However, when you are looking, the correct trail is relatively easy to find about 2/3 of the way down the meadow. There is a large white granite rock in the meadow where there are no other similar rocks. The trail turns the other direction, abruptly uphill into the timber.
