After winding through pockets of forest and meadow, the trail finally breaks out into the open, though usually not for very long. At the high point on the ridge to the left, you can see the Bare Mountain Lookout site, now without the lookout, but with a big view. No, that is not a misspelling, Bare mountain, but Bear Creek. The lookout site is where almost everybody goes, provided they do not mind the 60 or so switchbacks.
