The return: Wright Mountain side trip

On the trip back from the Wildcat Lakes area, there is one short, mandatory side trip. This photo is somewhat out of sequence, looking across Gem Lake lake northeast toward Wright Mountain. That's where you want to stop for a while as you make the return trip around the lake. From this perspective, it seems implausible that somebody would bother to name such a minor lump. Viewed from the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River valley on the other side, however, it is a prominent feature.

Just to the right of this view, a side trail goes steeply uphill, past some small and unappealing campsites, to a saddle along the ridge. From there you can pick any route you like — several are marked — for an easy low-class-3 scramble to the top.
