Mule Camp

Only 3.5 miles, really? Seems like 6. After fording the creek, the once classic trail winds through thick brush and pockets of pine trees, with only occasional open views, generally following the creek but somewhat above and away from it. Watch out, there are even a few stinging nettles, brought in as seeds on horse blankets for your hiking pleasure.

It is exhausting completely out of proportion to distance. Are we there yet? Yes, finally, we are. Better hope that it was worth the effort... Mule Camp is a comfortable open area under large trees. There are more large trees with looping arms not too far away, ready to hang food bags high to keep bears out of trouble. Water is available a short distance down at Whitepine Creek.
