Approach to Trap Lake

approach to lake

We are almost close enough to Trap Lake to smell the water. Fresh, very fresh.

At about 4.8 miles, a distinct side trail cuts downhill. Ignore the "don't go there" markers, those are to warn the through-hikers to avoid a time-wasting (though rewarding) detour.

There are a couple of steep and brushy switchbacks, but then things settle to a well-paced descent into a broad notch that leads down to the lake.
